Illustrating a Comic Book Poem – The Good One

The Good One_ComicBookPoems

I wanted to develop a character that had obvious shapes. I wanted the character to stand out on the page without being too loud or obtrusive. He is a basic character, but a true one. He reflects the text and looks to the future with a bright, bold style that meets the standard set by the previous Comic Book Poems in this series and the previous series.

Writing a Comic Book Poem – The Good One

Imagination and looking to the future. This is what I was looking to convey with this Comic Book Poem. It feels like a nice conclusion to this series. It is optimistic and passionate without being trite or didactic. It is obscure and wonderful and filled with whimsy and delight. It is a Comic Book Poem and it is hoped you enjoy The Good One.

The Good One
Close your eye
The good one that just stares
And imagine

Illustrating a Comic Book Poem – How Can I Depend on You

How Can I Depend On You_ComicBookPoems

I didn’t want to fully express a character within this Comic Book Poem. Therefore we only see the character in close up and a far distance. He remains a stranger in a way and does not introduce himself to the reader. His design is basic, but he has a strong silhouette, allowing him to be easily spotted on the last panel when he is small and seen in the distance. Use of colour is another aspect of his design which makes him a stand out character. Black and red work will together and make him bold and brash especially against a light blue background.

Writing a Comic Book Poem – How Can I Depend On You

How Can I Depend On You_ComicBookPoems

From a writing point of view this is fairly straight forward. It is about leaving and going somewhere new. It is about trying new things and going away without leaving a trace. The difficulty is conveying this visually without appearing crass or obvious. The simplicity in the text however allows this Comic Book Poem to be interpreted in many ways and puts emphasis on the reader to discover something in themselves.

How Can I Depend on You
You slip away
So very quietly
Into the air
