When illustrating Places I knew that each panel was going to present a location and the overall setting of the Comic Boom Poem was a forest. The text has an element of mystery and doesn’t exactly have a pay-off at the end. This could be frustrating to the viewer as there is no human element to relate to and no twist or turmoil to experience in the conclusion. To make Places more appealing I decided to give both of the pages a vivid watercolour wash. This gave an eerie quality to the page, especially when I illustrated the trees and backdrop using ink.
