Illustrating a Comic Book Poem – Buzzing

For the Comic Book Poem ‘Buzzing’ I wanted to keep the illustrations fairly straight forward. I always feel that one of the advantages of Comic Books is their ability to present and depict characters and their emotions. With ‘Buzzing’ I wanted to exploit this and created the Devil character as the protagonist.
For the illustration I combined traditional and digital media, with the character designed and drawn on paper. This was then scanned in to my computer where I created the digital background artwork for the panels.

Buzzing - Comic Book Poem
The story in the panels themselves did not require fantastic or graphic locations, so I situated the Comic Book Poem in the one area. This could potentially be bland to look at, but I feel the character and the text remove this possibility.
I believe that ‘Buzzing’ is great Comic Book Poem, with the words being the stand out. I did not want the visuals to dwarf the words, therefore they are fairly subdued, to ensure that the reader takes in the text and fully appreciates the Comic Book Poem.
