Illustrating a Comic Book Poem – A Perfect Breeze

As an artist I like to work in different mediums, however my favourite medium is marker pens. I am a big fan of ProMarker Pens and Fineliners. With ‘A Perfect Breeze’ I made use of markers and created a series of images that linked together on the page and conveyed the vivid imagery of the short and succinct poem.
For ‘A Perfect Breeze’ I looked to experiment with panel layouts in an atypical way. I wanted the illustration to be laid out on the page as a complete image with the panel borders breaking up the illustration.
The idea was for ‘A Perfect Breeze’ to be read two ways visually. You could look at the single page and see the one image or you could look at the individual panels and experience the poem in it’s sequential form.

The lettering was also added using pens, which I think conveys a loose handwritten feel. For ‘A Perfect Breeze’ I have shied away from digital art (only using Photoshop to add the panel borders) and concentrated on utilising pens and traditional media. I believe that this conveys the organic and subtle nature of the words .
